One-Day Core Radiography CPD Course (with CBCT Refresher)

Dr Jane Collingwood

Dr Jane Collingwood is a Clinical Lecturer and Specialist in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology at the University of Liverpool. She has a strong background in dental education with experience in teaching radiology, radiography and CBCT interpretation to undergraduate and postgraduate learners.

A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Jane has led on radiology curriculum development, with a focus on practical, safe and effective use of dental imaging for the
whole dental team.

She has an interest in 3D printing for dental education, contributes to research in radiology education and digital technologies, and is an examiner for the ORE.

Objectives
1. Describe the requirements of IRR17 and IR(ME)R 2017 (with 2018 amendments) and understand the roles of employer, referrer, practitioner and operator (GDC Outcome C).
2. Explain the basics of x-ray production and the biological risks of ionising radiation, and to ensure safe practice for patients and staff (GDC Outcome C).
3. Apply the principles of justification, optimisation (ALARP) and clinical evaluation to ensure dental radiographs are appropriate and compliant (GDC Outcome C).
4. Be familiar with the purpose of radiographic quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) GDC Outcomes B & C).
5. Refresh understanding of CBCT indications, justification and key regulatory requirements (GDC Outcomes C & D).
